Our New Natural Queen

Curls for the girls, Waves for the Babes
Look out World! I'm going natural today
No more burning perms- help is on the way
Look out World! I'm going natural today
Good bye weave and bad hair days
Look out World! I'm going natural today
Free to be me : twist, jump, bounce, sway
Look out World! I'm going natural today
You get it by now but I still feel the need to say
Look out World! I'm going natural today :)

The Natural Beauty in the above photo is none other than Southern University's own Lorealle Shell.
On Mother's Day 2012 she experienced the big chop and fell in love.
I, A'Kira Pollard (founder of Black Diamonds & Girls), was allotted the opportunity to cut her hair and start her natural journey. Isn't she lovely? Going natural is simply beautiful especially when you have the looks to compliment your cut. You go girl! You're beautiful Lorealle!
Welcome to the wonderful world of natural girls!

Mothersssssss Day

Queens, Kings, and Other Things we have made it to another holiday- Mothers' Day 2012. Lets make this day epic for those special women who carried us for 9 months and gave us unconditional love despite their situation. My mother was always a strong black woman and still is. She is laid back yet structured at the same time. She raised 4 women who went through high school drug free, alcohol free, and childless. What a blessing! If you have $1 or $1000000000000000000000000000 make sure you do something special. Even if your mom wasn't quite the poster lady for Moms show your appreciation because God chose her to bring you to this Earth.

Black Diamonds and Girls will launch a blog entitled Mothers' Day 2012- I love you mom. Send a photo and one line quote about your mom to pollard_akira@yahoo.com and we will publish it this weekend for the world to see how much your mom means to you. Deadline for photos is May 9, 2012 within the afternoon hours. Include your full name in the subject line of the email. Thanks!

A'Kira The Poet

Queens, Kings, and Other Things let's take this thing up a notch!
Who doesn't love a well shaped, soulful, lyrically enhanced poem, huh?
Well, let's show our love to our very own Queen- the founder & editor of Black Diamonds & Girls:
A'Kira Pollard
with her poem that's entitled On The Outside Looking In

On The Outside Looking In
by: A'Kira Pollard

I was born in 92
She was birthed in 95
I damn near walked everywhere
She had a drop top to drive
I was in class by 8
She was dressed for the club at 9
I ordered water at the restaurants
She wrote big checks for wine
Every time I saw her she would speak and smile
I would wave and grin
And say "Hey see you next time"
I was always nice to her
The whole city would bash her name
Man I was brought up to love everyone
My folks did- so I did the same
Its like, to me she was a lil girl
Her folks brought her into this world
So who am I to get mad
Being that she was a wealthy girl
Society treated her like she was hell on earth
Smile in her face and when she was out out sight- straight curse
I wasn't intimidated cause' I knew my worth
I just wished babygirl wouldn't let her promiscuity immerse
Life went on and I hustled hard
She was my prized client
I promise whatever I was selling
She would always buy it
I customized her with cosmetology
She came first
My account cried out for her
So she put in work
I watched her mature and change
She was a beauty queen
Didn't know behind those brown eyes
She felt like she didn't mean a thing
I found out that she danced in a town 2 hours away
She stripped down to nothing but her contacts
Just to get pay
All we knew in the city was that her folks were rich
So everyone had envy cause she had a mile
And us an inch
Never expected this call that I would receive
It was her calling to say her goodbyes and schedule the worse thing
She said she was ill and had one day to live
She thanked me for my kindness
And asked for favor which was a big deal
She told me style her for her funeral
Send her away nice
I did so very sadly, I made her look right
I learned that while I was at school
She was in the bed with men
While I worked my butt off
Her rapist was in jail facing 10
While I spent my last dollar
She was selling her body for gin
Life is a _______
How could a girl so beautiful be full of sin
See its so easy to hate than to help a friend
It seems so simple to harm than help someone smile again
Every one thought she had it so easy
Now they should have thought again
Her life was hell
As we were on the outside looking in
